The festive spirit of the season is kicking off with a selection of new LGBTQ+ Christmas films, making their debut just in time for the holiday celebrations. The titles range from romantic comedies to specials featuring prominent figures in the LGBTQ+ community.
First up is The Holiday Exchange [pictured], which follows Wilde, a bachelor looking to break free from his holiday blues. He opts to swap homes on an LGBTQ+ app with a man named Oliver. Their journey evolves into an unexpected romantic adventure after they meet two locals in the picturesque town of Brilfax. Sound a little like a certain Kate Winslet/Cameron Diaz film to you. Available for streaming on ITVX, Tubi and Pluto TV.
In a different vein, A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter is set to premiere on December 6 on Netflix. Although Carpenter does not identify as queer, she has indicated that this special is "for the gays." Pop singer Chappell Roan will make a cameo appearance.
For those looking for a blend of comedy and holiday chaos, Jack In Time For Christmas features comedian Jack Whitehall alongside an ensemble cast including Michael Bublé, Dave Bautista, and Rebel Wilson. The narrative follows Whitehall as he becomes stranded in the United States with a mere four days left to return to the UK for Christmas. This film is set to premiere on December 3 on Prime Video.
The Hallmark Channel will debut Seasons Greetings from Cherry Lane on December 5. This touching story revolves around three families who share a home in various time periods, striving to maintain the joy of the Christmas season amid life's obstacles.
Another poignant film, You Are Not Me, tells the story of Aitana who returns to her family home after three years away, eager to introduce her wife and adopted son. Set against the backdrop of the Spanish countryside, Aitana is confronted with unexpected changes at home, notably the presence of Nadia, a Romanian refugee. This film is scheduled for theatrical release and digital access on December 6, exploring themes of family dynamics and societal issues.
