Britta Curl, recently drafted by the PWHL Minnesota in the second round, has issued an apology following controversy regarding her social media activity on X, formerly known as Twitter. Curl, previously a team captain for the University of Wisconsin's NCAA women's hockey team, was selected as the No. 9 overall pick on Monday at Roy Wilkins Auditorium.

Criticism arose after the discovery of her "likes" on posts perceived as anti-trans and supportive of COVID-19 conspiracy theories. These included posts excluding transgender women from sports and favorable reactions to the "not guilty" verdict for Kyle Rittenhouse.

Curl addressed the backlash in a video on Friday, acknowledging the hurt caused to LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities by her social media actions. She affirmed her respect for diverse perspectives and emphasized her commitment to demonstrating her character to PWHL fans. Minnesota coach Ken Klee defended Curl's selection, citing positive reports from her former coaches and teammates.

The PWHL also released a statement reaffirming their commitment to inclusivity and support for women’s hockey.
