A bar in Idaho, named Old State Saloon, has garnered attention for its celebration of "Heterosexual Awesomeness Month." The promotion includes offering free draft beer to any heterosexual male dressed as such on Mondays and a 15% discount for heterosexual couples on Wednesdays throughout June.

This event adds to a pattern seen during Pride Month where similar initiatives are launched. In 2011, a Brazilian politician pushed for the establishment of Heterosexual Pride Day in São Paulo, which did not pass. More notably, in 2019, Boston held a Straight Pride Parade, which saw participation from several hundred individuals carrying signs with slogans such as “Straight lives matter.”

Discussions around these events often revolve around perceived inequities during celebrations of LGBTQ+ communities and holidays for women or minorities. However, these actions and their underlying questions highlight a lack of acknowledgment regarding the systemic privileges enjoyed by heterosexuals and gender-conforming individuals.
