The Meat Shack: Birmingham’s Hidden Gem for Burger Enthusiasts
Located on Thorp Street near Birmingham Hippodrome, The Meat Shack is a burger joint that has garnered a dedicated fan base since opening in 2017. Initially gaining popularity at the Digbeth Dining Club street food scene, the restaurant has made a name for itself with its unique flavors and casual atmosphere.
On a recent visit, the restaurant offered a straightforward menu featuring five beef, three chicken, and one veggie burger option. Notable offerings included the Buffalo Blue burger, which consists of two aged beef patties, Shropshire blue cheese, American cheese, bacon crumb, blue cheese dressing, buffalo hot wing sauce, and iceberg-red onion. The Bella Emberg, a veggie option, featured deep-fried halloumi cheese, mushroom duxelle, Dutch gouda cheese, ketchup, chipayo, crunchy onion flakes, and iceberg-red onion.
Sides included Nakatomi Fries topped with hoisin, sriracha, lime mayo, coriander, red chili, and sesame seeds, and Salt and Pepper Fries seasoned with a spicy coating, chopped onion, spring onion, and red and green peppers. The complete meal, including beverages, cost £43 for two people.
The restaurant features a relaxed, rustic interior with street art on the walls, seating around 70 people. Despite not booking ahead, the diners were greeted promptly and found the dining experience enjoyable and informal.
