Caissie Levy's Return to the West End with "Next to Normal"

Broadway star Caissie Levy, known for her role as Elsa in "Frozen," has returned to London's West End after more than a decade. In early January 2022, just after moving to New Jersey and welcoming her second child, Levy received a job offer via Instagram from British director Michael Longhurst. He invited her to lead the UK premiere of the Tony-winning musical "Next to Normal" at London's Donmar Warehouse.

"Next to Normal," written by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, features a rock music score and addresses complex themes surrounding mental health and bipolar disorder. Levy, now playing the mother, Diana, found the role appealing due to its depth and her personal experiences with anxiety and depression. The initial Donmar run was a success, prompting a transfer to the Wyndham’s Theatre in the West End, opening next week.

To prepare for the role, Levy conducted extensive research and sought expert advice to ensure an accurate portrayal, particularly regarding bipolar disorder and its treatments. Despite the emotional and physical demands of the role, Levy finds it fulfilling and looks forward to connecting with audiences in this new run.
